I think nurture and nature have equal effects on making us who we are. We are only born with a few innate abilities, and without nurture we wouldnt gain the skills needed to survive. Without nature we wouldn't survive at all. In my own experience nurture has had the upper hand. I've had to experience things for myself to know the negative drawbacks of the thing itself even if someone told me it was wrong or right. I feel as though nurture has more of a play in life because you arent born knowing what is wrong and what is right, that is a product of your environment. Scientists probably argue nature verses nurture because there are so many arguments that point toward both sides. Scientists believe, now, that nature and nurture both play small parts in the making of us. Nature, because we have certain genes that affect the way we are and they way we do things. Nurture, because our environment also plays a role in how we are raised and the decisions that we make.
According to the Article that i have read, certain scientist believe that it is simplistic to say that sprinters are influenced purely on nature or nurture, but a lot of scientists are leaning toward the nature argument. People have turned to this question of genes versus environment because places like west Africa and Jamaica consistently produce top sprinters, and places like Europe can barely make the parr. It is scientifically proven that people with less than 80 percent fast twitch fibers than you are unlikely to run as fast as Usain Bolt, the Olympic gold medalist from Jamaica. If you have 80 percent or higher, you are have the innate ability to run fast, but that doesn't mean you will, and that's where nurture comes in. Here nurture, your environment, trains you to be a sprinter. Some scientist believe that because sprinting is revered in places like Jamaica and Africa they just train their sprinters harder than their other athletes. This proves nothing scientifically. Even though Nature has more of an effect on running than that of nurture, nurture also plays a role in sprinters.

ReplyDeletei think being athletic is both nature and nurture. i say this because i personally don't fun fast at all but everybody else in my family does , does this mean that if i was nurtured enough i would eventually run like them. or nature just decided to make so i won't run at all. i personally believe that being a fast runner comes from genetics and what you do with it. some people use that gene and others don't.
ReplyDeletei totally agree with this particular article. Both nature and nurture play a part in who we are. Even though my article was dealing with location it basically said the same thing. that nurture has more influence over the things we do and basically the people that we will and have become.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you nat. Athletic ability is determined by our surroundings if we are constantly trained and brought up to be a sprinter/very fast runner. Like for instance if sons and daughters are brought up in a family that all are excellent singers then more than likely those parents are going to constantly train those children to sing until they sing just as good as the parents or maybe even better. So the same principles apply for athletic qualities, good job Nat!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying, I like how you put your opinion in to both and how you said it was to sides to everything. At first I didn't think how you are or the way you act could come from your gene, I just though you learn certain ways from your environment, the people who raise you. With you supporting both let me understand the things that you could be born with and the things you learn just on day-today experience.
ReplyDeleteI agree and disagree, it does not have the same affect because nature is just genes. What effect does genes have on us besides the way we look. If we say the way you act makes you who you are then it would be nurture. You had to learn everything you do from somewhere.
ReplyDeleteLike i said in the blog post, nature influences the way you run by the twitch fibers in your leg. Nurture influences the way you run, by what you do with those fibers. You could either train them, or you can let them sit stagnant either way nature and nurture both influence how we are.
